 Dr. Katie Kilcollin, a Union native, chose to return to her hometown to practice dentistry with her father in June 2009. "Dr. Katie" graduated from Greenbrier East High School in 2001 and continued her undergraduate career at Winthrop University, in Rock Hill, SC. While at Winthrop, Dr. Katie played Division I Basketball for four years for the Lady Eagles. In 2005 she graduated, "cum laude" with a degree in nutrition science and a minor in chemistry. In 2009, Dr. Katie graduated "with honors" from West Virginia University School of Dentistry.
"Being a dentist was just something in my genes, says Dr. Katie. When in elementary school, my dad ordered scrubs for me, in my size, and I loved going to the office with him and pretending that I was a dentist. My father’s professionalism and enthusiasm for his career, was always so evident in our household. It was a natural fit for me to follow in his footsteps."
Awards and recognition earned while in dental school include, the Academy of General Dentistry award, oral pathology award, restorative dentistry award and she was unanimously voted as the recipient of the American Association of Women Dentists, by the female faculty. Dr. Katie was also granted membership into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, dental honorary society. She completed her dental school career as number one in clinical proficiency, awarded from the dental school and the alumni association and ranked number two in her class in overall grade point average. The most notable award bestowed upon Dr. Katie was the Pierre Fauchard award, given to the top dental student. Pierre Fauchard is widely acknowledged as the "Father of Modern Dentistry."
Currently, Dr. Katie is completing a continuing education course on dental implants.
